  • Hotwire Formerly Vice President of Merchandising, Bason will oversee Hotwire.com(R), Travel-Ticker.com(R) and CarRentals.com(TM)

Hotwire(R), a leading travel discount site, today announced that Clem Bason has been promoted to president of the Hotwire Group, which includes Hotwire.com(R), Travel-Ticker.com(R), and CarRentals.com(TM). Bason, who will oversee all aspects of the three business units, takes over for Eric Grosse, who has been promoted to president of Expedia(R) Worldwide.

"Hotwire is a dynamic organization that delivers value to both partners and consumers alike," said Clem Bason, president, Hotwire Group. "I am excited by the opportunity to lead the Hotwire team as we continue to offer incredible deals on travel."

Bason takes over Hotwire.com, a leading discount travel site with low rates on airline tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars. He will also oversee Travel-Ticker.com, home to some of the best insider deals at many of the world's favorite destinations, as well as CarRentals.com, which offers a diverse selection of car rentals.

"Hotwire has been a strong and growing brand in the Expedia portfolio over the past couple of years. Clem has played a key role in Hotwire's strategic planning efforts and has become a valued advisor to Hotwire's executive team," said Dara Khosrowshahi, Expedia, Inc. CEO and president. "With Eric Grosse's promotion to Expedia Worldwide, Clem was a natural choice to fill the role as Hotwire Group president."

Bason joined Hotwire as vice president of hotel supplier relations in February 2006, bringing deep experience in business strategy and partnership development to the company. As vice president of merchandising, Clem was responsible for retailing and led creative direction on the site.

Prior to Hotwire, Clem helped lead Gap Brand's strategy and business development group, where he was responsible for strategic planning and new business development. Clem also spent five years with McKinsey & Co., leading engagements primarily for retail, consumer goods and online clients in the United States, Europe and Asia.

Clem received an M.B.A. from the Haas School at the University of California at Berkeley and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Delaware.
